The horizon line strikes across the picture plane, dividing the field of vision with what is perceived as a line, but is a curve that morphs into a circle and a circle that transforms into a sphere. There is never nothing and the sea is no exception, yet it has a perception of nothingness, the endless horizon with its ever roiling clouds, dotted by the brightest stars that are just able to push through the sun’s powerful illumination. The humped waves, like so many whales heave towards the moon and fall out of visibility at the division between water and sky. There is not nothing, but so much something that there might be nothing. The opposite part of the world is exactly where you stand.
